Midweek Announcements for March 18, 2021

Friday Evening Movie Series Tomorrow Night

It is a truth of our denomination that Dylan Roof grew up in the ELCA. It is also a truth that Delaina Ashley Yuan, Paul Andres Michels, Xiaojie Yan, Daoyou Feng, Julie Park, Hyeon Jeong Park, and two as of yet unnamed Korean women were murdered violently this week.

As a Congregation, we are practicing intergenerational dialogues and shared learning, using one tool of screened movie nights with opening and closing programming over Zoom. Tomorrow, March 19th, we will gather at 6 pm to view the film The Hunchback of Notre Dame together, and engage in reflection and commemoration together. We will gather on Zoom from 6-6:30 pm, and 8:15-8:45 pm for group activities, and rent of stream films separately using either Disney +, Youtube, Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Vudu, Google Play or ITunes.

Zoom meeting information will be included in the Constant Contact version of our weekly announcements. If you are not receiving our weekly announcements, please contact the Church Office.

Outdoor Worship and AFAC Food Collection on Sunday, March 28

Weather permitting, join us outdoors (with facial covering and maintaining strict physical distance) on March 28 at 12:15 on the Potomac Street side of the church for a brief service of worship in conjunction of the food collection for AFAC. This service will feature a procession with palms and a reading of the Passion from Mark’s Gospel.

Midweek Lenten Series

Join us via Zoom at 7:00 pm on the Wednesday evenings during Lent for a brief worship service followed by presentations by RELC members on how their faith informs their life’s work. Additionally, each week in Lent also features written reflections by members on the same topic which seeks to celebrate the vitality of lay ministry and leadership in our congregation. This series concludes on Wednesday, March 24. Look for links to the written reflections, the Zoom invitations and the service bulletins in each Tuesday’s Midweek Message.

Our Benevolent Generosity at Work

We recently received letters of thanks from the following organizations which we financially support via the recommendations of our Social Ministry Committee:

  • Doorways (addressing homelessness, domestic violence and sexual assault)
  • N Street Village (housing and other support and recovery for women)

March Financial Update

The below chart is a summary of RELC’s finances for the year to date as of February 28, 2021. The columns titled “(a) YTD Giving,” “(b) YTD Expenses” and “(c) Giving minus Expenses” provide key data for our three primary financial funds.

This data shows that our general fund is currently running below our actual expenses for the year and below our giving levels for this time last year. We continue to see the negative impact of the cancellation of Sunday services on our giving.

Please continue to send in your weekly contributions which can be made through Simply Giving, by using the “Donate Now” button on RELC’s website or by sending your contribution check to the church office in the US Mail. Please also consider completing your 2021 pledge form if you haven’t already.

Please prayerfully consider what this information means to you as we work together to support RELC’s ministries.

Calling for Additional Worship Leaders

For those who have not yet had occasion to be a reader or prayer leader for our home worship videos, we encourage you to volunteer. Consider yourself duly invited. If you are interested or want to learn more about this opportunity, kindly contact This email address is being protected from spambots.
